Scope General The first part of the implementation has been a challenging experience and set us on a good course. While preparing output 4 we were already working on the second part of the implementation. Another overlapping of phases that I have observed many times during this project. We realized that the project schedule was too ambitious and made adjustments to our expectations and goals accordingly. These adjustments are reflected in the project plan developed at the end of part 1 of the implementation for the second part with the goal to be very realistic in what we can complete in the given timeframe and available resources, mainly help with the work. We also started harvesting small crops from the garden, like salad, raspberries and strawberries, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, eggplant, radishes, kale, swiss chard and peas. In some ways implementation part 2 is a continuation of the first part - some tasks were not completed that were continued, but we also started with new tasks. Day to day living continued at the same pace and structured as previously until the time when Berta's nephews, our help, left for Chicago. The goal for this part of the implementation is a continuation of building some basic infrastructure for the future redesign efforts on our property following in the future years. This is in so far challenging as that many of the "cool", "green" elements will be implemented later, like the cob bench, the rain water catchment or the solar PV system. Keeping the perspective can get easily lost when in the middle of the activity with no time for anything. As I have been in similar situations when designing larger software projects I know about this and find myself looking forward taking all the steps that lead to the intended system and purpose. Sometimes years after the start of the project a certain functionality was in place that was built upon many other functions and processes that had to be in place first. Main Results The main outcomes of this part of the implementation are the documentation (text, photos, video clips, drawings, spreadsheets, etc.), the elements that have been realized and the tasks that have been completed, and the realizations of how the second part of implementation was different from the first and all the others. There was not much time for reflection and it was quite hard to keep my journal going. The processing and reviewing for this phase is with putting this output together and will continue with the final review. | |||
